Born Destiny Hope Cyrus to country music superstar Billy Ray Cyrus, her parents nicknamed her “Smiley” which became shortened to just Miley. She got her first acting break on her dad’s PAX TV medical series Doc playing the role of Kylie. In 2003 she appeared in Tim Burton’s fantasy, Big Fish. But it was in 2006 she would get her big breakthrough when she appeared in the Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody as the character Hannah Montanna, the secret pop-star identity of regular student Miley Stewart. The part in the show, where she teamed with Taylor Swift,was so successful that it became its own series in 2006 and propelled her into superstar status.
Her music career has also been incredibly successful, with 29 of her songs charting in the Billboard Hot 100. Cyrus became the first Disney start to have deals in TV, film, consumer products and music. Her first full album, the Hannah Montanna soundtrack (2006) hit number one on the Billboard 200. In 2007 a double-disc album was released, one disc being the soundtrack to Hannah Montanna’s second season and the other disc was Meet Miley Cyrus. The album hit number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified three-times platinum. Later than year she launched her first tour, The Best of Both Worlds tour. Tickets for her concerts sold out in just minutes and scalped for outrageous amounts.
In 2008 Cyrus released her second album under her own name titled Breakout. It debuted at number one on Billboard 200. Cyrus co-wrote 8 of the 12 songs. Her 2009 EP, The Time of Our Lives, contained the hit single Party in the USA, which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her most successful single to date. The Hannah Montanna TV series ran for four seasons, ending on January 16, 2011. Cyrus was paid $15,000 for each episode.
